Center for Advanced Public Awareness

CAPA is primarily concerned with issues relating to consumer safety. Our current focus is on Proposition 65 violations, where consumers face significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

We believe all consumers have the right to understand the depth and breadth of the chemicals they are exposed to in products on the market today.

CAPA's goal is to enable all consumers to have access to the most comprehensive information about the chemicals in the products they buy.  We also want suppliers to be accountable for the dangerous and toxic chemicals that are often used in manufacturing processes.   In the public interest, we actively pursue enforcement of state and federal environmental laws.  We aim to create a cleaner, safer, and more informed society.

Recent Activities

Proposition 65 requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about significant exposures to chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.  These chemicals can be in the products that Californians purchase, in their homes or workplaces, or that are released into the environment. By requiring that this information be provided, Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about their exposures to these chemicals.  To learn more about Proposition 65, you can contact us at any time
